How to Choose a Carpet for Your Outdoor Spaces

1 photo

An outdoor space is a commodity not many people have in this day and age, and if you’re lucky enough to live in a house with a backyard, try to make the most of it.

There are lots of ideas you can opt for, but most people go for a deck in order to maximize their outdoor space. However, no deck is perfect without a proper rug and you need to pick one if you want to make yours extra special and homely, so here are a few tips that might help you.

The Colours

When browsing through various outdoor rugs for your deck, you have to take certain things into consideration – the colour of your exterior walls, the amount of natural light your deck has, the colour of your furniture, etc. – and make sure the rug you pick is in accordance with all of them.

The easiest way to pick the colour is to coordinate it with the colour of your walls. Most people choose unusual colours and combinations to make their home visually appealing, so they mix beige, white and gray with blue, green and yellow, so these are the options you should start with.

The Combinations

Outdoor rugs can be used on patios and grass, but using them on a deck is definitely the best-case scenario. These structures are an amazing addition to your home – they’ll give you plenty of options and provide you with a spot to welcome your guest and eat all your meals. So, if you don’t already have a deck, consider building one as soon as possible. Don’t do this on your own, though, but do call an experienced professional, and you’ll know your deck is just perfect.

Once you build it, it’s time to pick the rug that suits it the most, and focusing on the colour is the easiest way to go. Decks made from darker wood should be combined with a light rug, and vice versa, to make your outdoor area more interesting and visually intriguing.

The Patterns

Besides colours, outdoor rugs come in various patterns, and lots of people have a problem picking one that’s just perfect for their outdoor space. However, it doesn’t matter whether you go with stripes, geometric shapes or an intricate design – if you combine it with some of the other elements of your outdoor space, you’ll be all right.

Probably the best way to pick the perfect pattern is by following your interior design style and trying to repeat something similar in the outdoor area as well. Therefore, opting for a stylish rug that connects your indoor and outdoor area could easily be the perfect choice – it’s going to extend your decorating philosophy to the exterior space and tie everything together easily and efficiently. Moreover, it’s going to take your home décor to a whole new level and make your living space much more enjoyable and welcoming.

The Materials

When it comes to picking the perfect material for your outdoor rug, there are two ways to go – natural and synthetic materials – and it all depends on how eco-friendly and sustainable you are. Luckily, both choices come in various shapes, sizes, colours and patterns, so you’ll really have a wide range of options to choose from.

Rugs made from natural fibres, for instance, are usually strong, durable and absorb lots of sounds, and some of the most popular materials are hemp, bamboo, jute and sea grass. On the other hand, synthetic rugs are more affordable, more colourful and are easier to maintain, which is especially important when it comes to cleaning. Since both of these have their ups and downs, pick whichever you like the most and you’ll surely get a wonderful outdoor rug.

The Maintenance

It’s important to remember that outdoor rugs require lots of love and care, and you’ll need to invest time and effort if you wish to be able to use them in the years to come. Some of them don’t react well to excessive heat, so you’ll need to protect them, at least during those long summer days that can get pretty hot.

Also, you’ll need to clean your rug as frequently as possible and doing so at least once a week will keep it clean and shiny no matter how many people walk over it. In the end, you should have it cleaned professionally once or twice a year, since only people with experience and proper equipment can wash all the mud from it and remove every single stain you’ve made.

Adding a rug to your deck will make it just perfect and turn it into a space you’re going to want to spend more and more time in. You can’t go wrong by picking a simple and elegant design, so find that special rug and you’ll make your outdoor area nicer than it ever was.
