### Before You Buy a Cookware Set

1 photo

Planning to Buy a Cookware Set? Do you own a cookware set? If you don't, it is probably in your standing wish list. Many people invest in cookware set this time of year (it is Christmas, after all!) so here are a few guidelines and questions for those of you choosing the cookware set. Whether you are buying the versatile All Clad Cookware or another brand name of cookware set, run through these questions and tips as you go about your cookware set shopping. 1. Do I really need to buy a cookware set? - The first question you should ask yourself is whether you really need a cookware set. Indeed, they are beautiful on the pot rack or in your cabinet and they are very handy for certain kitchen tasks. But we have found that a good skillet and a saucepan are just as useful for nearly every cooking task. If you don't make a lot of variety food, you don't really have to own a cookware set. But does a cookware set make everything a little easier? Sure. And if you make a lot dishes, it's very useful. 2. If I had a cookware set, would I work with each piece in the set more than once a week? - This is an arbitrary standard, but I probably wouldn't have bought my own cookware set if I didn't think I would use it about once a week, or frequently. 3. Do I have space for storing a cookware set? - Some cookware set consists of 2 to 14 piece in the box. It's difficult to store them in a narrow kitchen, so except if you have a built-in appliance lift or kitchen appliance garage, you will need a lot of room or space for them. But if you do have a narrow space but still want to buy a cookware set, why don't you buy a pot rack for addition, it helps you to solve storing problems and also protect your pots and pans much better than a kitchen cabinet. 4. Which kind of pots and pans do you need? - For a few people a skillet and a saucepan would be adequate for them, but for others like me, I need a lot of pots and pans. My advice has always been to start small. Cookware is one thing that really shouldn't be skimped on: cheap pots and pans are simply not worth it. That doesn't really mean you need to invest a lot of your funds, though; you could find great deals on good cookware at retailers like Amazon, Cooking.com or even at a garage sale. 5. What sort of cookware material that fits on your cooktop? - If you use a conduction stovetop, some cookware surface cannot be used. There are a lot of type of cooking surface available, such as stainless steel, iron, copper, ceramic, enameled iron, glass, and Hard-Anodized. 6. Is it easy to clean or not? - If you don't like to waste your time cleansing your cookware by hand, you better pick up a cookware set that features dishwasher safe. But for some cookware, even the manufacturer state dishwasher safe, you still have to wash by hand to avoid scratch on your pans, example like, All Clad Cookware, they are dishwasher safe, but due to the hefty price, you better wash by hand only. 7. How much can I afford to spend? - Once you have decided that you could afford the counterspace, and that yes, a cookware set is a great investment for your kitchen and your cooking style, it is time to decide how much you are willing to spend. Cookware set can be found for anywhere from about $100 to over$2000. Little Information About Cookware Materials Stainless Steel Positive: Nonreactive (meaning you can cook any kind of food in it, the food taste won't change), heavy, durable, dishwasher-safe, inexpensive for some basic models. Negatives: Poor heat transfer and distribution. A better alternative? You can solve this problem by buying much better quality (and higher priced) stainless steel cookware with an added inner core made of copper or aluminum, which improves the heat conductivity. It might be pricey, but it'll last a lifetime. All-Clad is a great model associated with high-end stainless steel cookware. Copper Positive: Excellent thermal conductivity, cooks food evenly. Negatives: Reactive with alkaline or acidic foods, which can result a metallic taste after being cooked in a copper pot. Light colored foods, like eggs, can also develop grey streaks when they pick up the copper compounds, which also means you'll ingest small amounts of copper. Not really a problem if it's an infrequent thing, but not so great for everyday use. Copper also requires routine polishing and maintenance, and it's costly. A better alternative? Consider copper pots with a stainless steel or tin layer so you get the best of both worlds: great thermal conductivity, with the safety and versatility of a nonreactive layer. Aluminum Positive: Excellent thermal conductivity, light-weight, inexpensive. Negatives: Like copper, raw aluminum is extremely reactive to alkaline or acidic foods. It's also very soft and is likely to warp in high heat and scratch easily, which leads to health concerns with long-term use. A better alternative? Anodized aluminum has been treated by an electro-chemical process that hardens it, as a result solving most of the issues with raw aluminum. It's more costly than raw aluminum, but also a far excellent cookware material. While anodized aluminum does take longer to heat up than other materials, it's an exceptional heat conductor (superior to stainless steel), scratch-resistant, and lightweight but still very strong. Cast Iron Positive: Sturdy, affordable, naturally non-stick if properly seasoned, distributes heat evenly and maintains heat well, imparts iron to foods (an added benefit for some), great for long, low simmering and browning. Negatives: Cast iron is also reactive, and doesn't take well to acidic foods. It's also fairly heavy, takes a long time to heat up, requires a bit more effort to clean and preserve. Another alternative? While we still prefer raw cast iron for skillets, enameled cast iron (cast iron coated in porcelain enamel) has most the advantages of cast iron without the extra trouble, so it's a great material for dutch ovens. It's non-reactive, easy to clean, and beautiful.

### Air Purifier Buying Guide

1 photo

The tight seals that make your home comfortable and energy efficient also make the indoor air more polluted. The air inside your home is five to ten times dirtier than the air outside, and Americans spend 90% of their lives indoors. Quality air purifiers have never been more important for good health. Shopping for the right air purifier can be confusing and frustrating. Some air purifiers on the market today actually pollute the air with harmful levels of ozone, a powerful lung irritant that can be especially dangerous to asthma sufferers. Learn about air purifiers and find a safe, effective unit that's right for your needs with this air purifier buying guide. Common Household Air Pollutants Different air purifiers target different pollutants, so it's important to identify the pollutants you want to eliminate from your home before you buy an air purifier. Airborne Particles include pet allergen, dust mite allergen, pollen, plant spores, fungi, mold, and tobacco smoke, and they are the most common cause of indoor allergy and asthma attacks. A HEPA air purifier is the best method of eliminating airborne allergens. Household Odors and Gases include cooking odors, kitty litter, tobacco smoke, various toxins, and gaseous pollutants like indoor pesticides or aerosols. Activated carbon filters are ideal for adsorbing gases and odors that are too small to be trapped by a HEPA filter. "Adsorb" is not a typo; "adsorption" occurs when materials attach through a chemical reaction. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are found in a wide variety of common household products: paints, varnishes, cleaning supplies, disinfectants, glues and adhesives, and even new carpet and building supplies. Look for ingredients like benzene, chloride, formaldehyde, ethylene, and toluene. VOCs can cause the following symptoms: irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, headaches, nausea, and even severe chronic health conditions such as damage to the nervous system. The presence of VOCs can also exacerbate asthma. Microorganisms include antigens, pathogens, bacteria, and viruses. They're the everyday germs that make us sick. Mold is also considered a microorganism. Air Purifier Filter Types Different air purifier filters target different types of air pollution. HEPA air purifiers are the most popular, and they're perfect for eliminating household allergens such as dust, animal dander, and pollen, but they're not very good at capturing ultra-fine particles like viruses or eliminating foul odors or chemical fumes. Because different air purifier technologies have different strengths and weaknesses, many modern air purifiers combine two or more filter types in the same unit. For example, the Austin Air Super Blend Healthmate utilizes a HEPA filter along with an activated carbon filter to help eliminate odors and fumes. Let's take a closer look at the different types of filters: HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) Filters set the standard for air purification. By definition, a HEPA filter removes at least 99.97% of all particles as small as 0.3 microns. HEPA air purifiers were originally developed by the Atomic Energy Commission to capture radioactive dust particles. HEPA filters allow only very small particles to pass through them. Allergens such as pollen, animal dander, mold spores, and dust get trapped in the filter. The main disadvantage of the HEPA air purifier is that you have to periodically change the filter. The main advantage: If it's HEPA certified, then you know it works well. Not all HEPA filters are created equal. Size matters: the more square feet of HEPA filter, the more particulates it will be able to remove. The size, material, and construction of the actual filter media all play a role in the air purifier's performance and may account for why one HEPA filter is more expensive than another. Ion Generators and Ozone Generators create charged particles (ions) and emit them into the surrounding air. These ions combine with impurities (like dust) in the air, forcing the impurities to cling to a nearby surface. Consequently, ion generators often produce dirty spots on nearby walls and floors because they do not eliminate impurities; ion generators simply force impurities to cling to a surface (in the same way that static electricity can make a sock cling to a shirt). Ion generators are the second most popular type of air purifiers, but they both emit ozone, a powerful lung irritant that is especially dangerous for people with asthma and other chronic lung diseases, children, and the elderly. Electrostatic Precipitators work on the same principle of electricity as ion generators and ozone generators, but electrostatic precipitators capture impurities rather than simply forcing them to cling to an external surface. Electrostatic precipitators, such as the Friedrich C90B Electrostatic Air Purifier, use electronic cells to charge particles within the purifier and immediately trap the impurities on collector plates. The main advantage with this type of air purifier is that the collector plates never have to be replaced; they can be easily washed in the dishwasher. Be aware that some electrostatic precipitators also generate ozone. Charged Media Filters work the same way as electrostatic precipitators, but they collect particles on fiber filters instead of plates. The advantage of these filters is that they are able to collect very small particles, sometimes as small as 0.1 microns, through a combination of a filter and an electrostatic charge. The disadvantage is that, like the electrostatic precipitator filters, charged media filters lose their efficiency fairly quickly, and they can require more frequent filter replacements compared to a HEPA air purifier. These types of units can produce ozone, but the better ones on the market do not. If you are going to purchase this type of air purifier, make sure that it does not produce ozone. The best air purifier in this category is the Blueair air purifier. Activated Carbon Filters are rarely used alone to purify the air, but they are often used in conjunction with other filters. Activated carbon and charcoal filters excel at adsorbing odors and gases and neutralizing smoke, chemicals, and fumes. "Adsorb" is not a typo; "adsorption" occurs when materials attach through chemical attraction. Activated carbon has been treated with oxygen, opening up millions of pores in the carbon. There are so many of these tiny pores that one pound of activated carbon has a surface area of 60 to 150 acres. This huge surface area makes it ideal for adsorbing gases and odors. These chemicals and gases are too small to be trapped by a HEPA filter, but they bond to the enormous surface area in the activated carbon. The bigger the carbon filter, the more chemicals it will be able to absorb and the longer it will keep on working. When it's full, it can't adsorb any more and has to be replaced. Impregnated carbon filters contain an additional chemical (a "chemisorbent") to eliminate certain chemicals like VOCs. Antibacterial and Germicidal Filters eliminate bacteria and germs. The IQAir Clean Room H13 HEPA Air Purifier, for example, utilizes a HEPA filter treated with agents to kill airborne microorganisms. Other air purifiers, like the AllerAir 4000 EXEC UV Air Purifier, use a UV lamp to kill germs. As antigens and pathogens pass over the lamp, it emits ultraviolet waves which alter their DNA, making them sterile and harmless. Air purifiers with UV filters are often used in sterile environments such as hospitals, kitchens, daycares, and labs. In residential use, they are great for controlling mold. If you are someone who gets sick often, an air purifier with a germicidal filter may be just what you need to give your immune system that extra boost. Pre-Filters remove large particles prior to primary filtration and come with nearly all air purifiers. Other Factors to Consider Before Buying an Air Purifier Area Coverage - Make sure the square footage listed for the air purifier is about the same or slightly greater than the square footage of the room where you intend to use it. Air Changes Per Hour (ACH) - This number, also known as the ACH rating, tells us how frequently the air purifier can exchange all the air in a given room. For example, if the purifier has a ACH rating of 6 for a 20' x 20' room, then it is capable of exchanging all of the air in that room 6 times every hour. If you have allergies or asthma, you want an ACH rating of at least 4 and preferably 6 or 8. Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) - The CADR, calculated by AHAM (The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers), tells us not only how much air is purified, but also how well it is purified. Air purifiers that have been tested by AHAM should have the AHAM Certified seal and CADR numbers for three pollutants: tobacco smoke, pollen, and dust. The higher the CADR rating, the more effective the air purifier is against that pollutant. CADR ratings are calculated impartially and recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency and American Lung Association. Price - Air purifiers range from affordable $100 air purifiers for small spaces to fully loaded$1,000+ air purifiers for large rooms. Filter Replacements - If you're buying a HEPA filter, don't forget to check and see how much replacement filters will cost. If your unit includes both a HEPA filter and a carbon filter or other combination filtration media, they will probably need to be replaced separately, and may last for different periods of time. This can be a hassle, particularly if they are difficult to access. Noise Level - Some air purifiers, such as the Blueair units, are extremely quiet, while others can be quite loud when operating at high power. If possible, ask for a demonstration before you buy your air purifier. Energy Usage - Like all appliances, different air purifiers use different amounts of energy for operation. Unlike most appliances, air purifiers run continuously, so you'll want to consider your utility bill before buying an air purifier. If only volts and amps are listed, simply multiply the two: volts x amps = watts. Typical mechanical air filters can use anywhere from 50 watts on low to 200 watts on high. (For comparison sake, a typical lamp uses about 60 watts, while a typical computer uses about 365 watts). Air Pollution - Some air purifiers pollute the air with ozone, a powerful lung irritant that is especially dangerous for asthmatics, children, and the elderly. Extra Features - These are the bells and whistles. They can make your air purifier a lot easier to use. On the other hand, they can also significantly up the price on an air purifier that isn't really all that much better than the next one. You simply have to decide which features will make your life easier and which ones just aren't worth the extra cash. For example, a filter change indicator light lets you know when to change the filter, and handles or casters are important if you plan on moving your air purifier around a lot. Manufacturer's Reputation - A manufacturer's reputation and the experiences of past customers deserve consideration in your decision. Certain manufacturers and products are highly respected in the industry for a reason - and the same goes for products which have garnered less respect. Check out customer reviews to get a sense of the reputation. Warranty - A five-year warranty is a good one. A ten-year warranty is even better! Take into account what the warranty covers - motor, fan, electrical components? Also, find out if certain customer actions will void the warranty. Some manufacturers will void the warranty if the customer does not purchase replacement filters over the recommended time period; this can be inconvenient if you plan to run your air purifier less often or if the air in your home is cleaner than average.

### Why Choose a Red Electric Kettle?

1 photo

People spend loads of money to decorate a house. They buy all those items which make their home look unique and classy. For this they keep all the intricacies in mind from the tiles of the floor to the type of wallpaper on the kitchen walls. This is not for others but for themselves. No one would like to live in the home which is not tastefully done. That is the reason people pay even lots of attention to the type of crockery one uses at home. Some time back there was the era in which people only used the cut glass or melamine crockery. But the time has changed and the type of appliances we used in kitchen are also become high tech and the era of glamorous appliances is in vogue. The best example of this is red electric kettle. The red electric kettle is different from the stainless steel kettles. The stainless steel kettles are the traditionally fabricated stainless steel fabricated kettles. The stainless steel kettles are available in two variant - electrical and non electrical. They were good in their style and usage but they look to odd in usage for the current tend of glamorous kitchens. On the other hand the red kettle is making news. This is the kettle which does the same thing as the stainless steel kettles but it has the glamour quotient in it. The red electric kettle is different with other electric kettles. This has many advantages over other types of kettles. And the best quality of this is its convenience and easy to use features. This is especially designed to heat water. The red kettle is much more efficient than stove top kettles that are also available in red or stainless steel kettles. The electric kettles concentrate most of its energy in heating water. But the stove top kettles or stainless steel kettles present a varying amount of electricity waste caused by escaping heat that doesn't come into effective contact with water. This is the extra usage of electricity consumption. The electric kettles are the gift for the tea drinkers and especially for those who drinks green tea and flavored teas. This is because some kettles come with water temperature settings allowing you to boil water at lower temperatures for pleasant brewed tea. In these kettles specific temperature settings can be adjusted. And this will give you the type of tea you always wanted to drink. The red kettles look smart, elegant, unique and stylish in your kitchen, even when they are not in use. In this there is variant of cordless option also. This is the kettle which breaks the jinx of boring colorless stainless steel kettles. This is the kettle which is available with the cool touch handle and lid, boil dry safety cut out and non-slip feet as basic features the red electric kettles.

### Backpack - For Adventurous Journeys

1 photo

For traveling in hilly areas, long travels, hiking, or tourism of any country and city, backpacks are very much essential items. When we go on such type of trips we can't carry a heavy burden in our hands or back so the best idea is each person carry his own load with the help of a backpack. Even you can give little backpacks to your children so they can also understand their responsibilities while traveling. Normally children love to take care of responsibilities if given to them. In Backpacks there are certain types like some are huge and spacious enough that you can have each and everything in it. The other one is designed like a mini Backpack. In this category again two types are there. One is like a food backpack, you can have your meal and water and other little things in it. The other one is like mini sleepover backpack. In these types different functional types are also available in the market like in zippers, double zippers, adjustable straps, straps with clips and with water compartment or without water compartment. Anyone out there can buy one which fulfills the need during journey. When you want to go on a long journey or for a staying trip then the huge size will be good choice for you. It can adjust many things like sleepovers and other essential things. ### Build Your New Home With Natural Wood Cedar Garage Doors

1 photo

Natural wood garage doors are aesthetically very pleasing and add value to any home. Redwood, oak and cedar garage doors are very popular with many new home builders. Natural wood is really great at accenting your home. In terms of garage doors pricing wood doors are relatively cheap to build and install however they are obviously not as durable as conventional metal or composite garage doors. Wood garage doors will weather quickly and expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes. As such frequent up keep will be required to keep them in good condition. Many of the new wood care products do a very good job of protecting wood products including wood garage doors. If you live in area with long winters and deep snows where the snow will lay against the doors for an extended period then you will need to conduct maintenance more often. Also if you live in an area with long periods of heat and humidity such as the Southeast US you will also have to do a good job of regular maintenance to protect your investment. The lowest priced wood garage doors are constructed of redwood while oak and cedar garage doors are normally about twice as expensive. A 16 x 7 redwood garage door will average about $600 to$800 depending on the type of door construction. Tilt-up garage doors are especially adaptable to using wood for construction. Cedar garage doors have an additional advantage of being lightweight and very rot resistant. In addition white cedar garage doors do a fairly good job of insulating as well. If you decide to use a flush fit roll up garage door construction you should make sure the panels are constructed of one solid piece of wood. Failure to do so will mean that there is a good chance that glued and stapled seams will begin to show after weathering. Finding redwood and cedar material that is straight and clean can be expensive. Thin wood panels will have a higher risk of warping than larger dimensions. However it you are installing an oak door with long solid panels then door weight may become a concern. For obvious reason you would not want to install cedar garage doors or any wood door in areas of high wind risk. However you can apply a wood door covering to a high wind rated door that will protect your home from hurricanes and meet local high wind building codes. In some case local building codes will not permit the modification. It probably be best find a conventional high wind garage door manufacture that has a very good artificial wood finish embossed on it if you live along the Southeast Coastal areas. When building your home there is no doubt that natural wood garage doors do look very nice. The look of an oak, redwood or white cedar garage doors that are well maintained will certainly enhance the value of your home. It really is hard to beat the natural look of real wood.

### Cleaning the Bathroom Toilet and Sink

1 photo

Two of the most commonly used bathroom fixtures in any house are the bathroom toilet and sink. Since these fixtures are usually repaired by professionals, homeowners would benefit from keeping their bathroom toilets and sinks in tiptop shape. Here are a few steps that will help you to properly maintain your sink and toilet. Like a car engine, the basement bathroom toilet or other toilets in the house should always be cleaned to prevent the accumulation of dirt and grimes. Remember that they are the major cause of leaks and clogs. To prevent that from happening, make sure that the bathroom toilet is cleaned regularly. Do this with the aid of a mild disinfectant and toilet brush. It is important to gently scrub the toilet from inside and out to effectively remove the dirt. However, cleaning the bathroom toilet is not enough. Whether you are maintaining your bedroom bathroom toilet, or the basement bathroom toilet, sanitizing is important. The presence of germs and bacteria in the toilet seats, for instance, can pose serious health problems. To disinfect the toilet, place a drop of disinfectant liquid and thoroughly wipe it on the seat and rim. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wipe the seat with a clean cloth. In disinfecting the toilet bowl, flush the toilet to rinse off the solution. Use a non-wax polish to introduce a shiny and spanking new appearance to the toilet's surface. The same goes for the bathroom sinks. Always clean, disinfect, and polish them. In cleaning the sink, use cold water and soap. Stainless steel sinks can be cleaned with a scrub and mild detergent. Using harsher washing solutions however can damage the sink's surface, so a mild detergent is always the best option. For porcelain sinks, a warm water and vinegar solution should do the trick. When disinfecting the sink, the use of a commercially available disinfectant would already suffice. Put a drop on a piece of clean cloth and wipe the entire sink. The use of baby oil can aid in bringing back the sink's luster. Meanwhile, vinegar can help in restoring the appealing look of a porcelain sink. Take note of these easy-to-follow steps and you'll surely be able to enjoy the use of your bathroom fixtures for a long time.

### Simple Way to Convert Flash SWF to MP4

1 photo

MKV - Stands for Matroska Video File, is the matroska container format. Nowadays it is the generally video files, as well those containing audio (movies) or video only. MKV is similar in conception to other containers like AVI, MP4 or ASF. Some famous movies may use mkv format as the following reason: Its open source software player/tools Support for almost any codec. Quality-wise, better GUI for muxing tools and more idiot-proof. Due to these reasons, MKV format became popular, especially on the movie download websites. Looking for the way to convert MKV to iPod MP4, you must already have this kind of video files. As the movie downloaded from iTunes are protected and appears in WMV format. I found a solution guide on ubuntuforums: First install mkvextract, mkvinfo, MP4Box, hexedit and mplayer $sudo apt.-get install mkvtoolnix gpac hexedit mplayer Then you need neroAacEnc. Unpack linux directory, chmod +x neroAacEnc and copy it to a location of your choice (whitin the path) I've downloaded Heroes Season 2 episode 11 which as this filename: Heroes_S02E11_720p.mkv (and yes, this is legal in Norway!) Then you have to find out which tracks contains the audio and video. Run:$ mkvinfo Heroes_S02E11_720p.mkv Check out the printout to find the tracks. (in my mkv file video is on track1 and audio is on track 2. Change the numbers to fit you mkv file) Then demux the mkvfile by running: $mkvextract tracks 1:video.h264 2:audio.ac3 Next to do is to change one byte inside the video.h264.$ hexedit video.h264 On the first line you should see this number combination: "67 64 00 33" change this to: "67 64 00 29" press ctrl-s to save and ctrl-z to exit Then you need to convert audio to aac format. $mkfifo audiodump.wav$ neroAacEnc -ignorelength -q 0.20 -if audiodump.wav -of audio.m4a & mplayer audio.ac3 -vc null -vo null -ao pcm:fast This may take a couple of minutes. The only thing left is to mux the video and audio file: \$ MP4Box -add video.h264 -add audio.m4a Heroes_S02E11.mp4 All should be finished within 5 minutes because no video conversion is done. Sounds complicated! I haven't tried it. I highly recommend using a MKV to iPod MP4 Converter, such as PQ DVD to iPod Video Converter Suite. It is ranked as NO.1 in Toptenreviews, can convert almost all kinds of the video formats including MKV, AVI, WMV, MPEG, DVD, YouTube etc. Toptenreviews said:" Each time we tested its output quality, PQ DVD converted video and DVD files with impeccable quality. The video and audio were in sync every time, the picture was clear and the colors were bright and vivid." Here's our recommended MKV Players for playing .mkv files and .mka files. o VLC media player - Free cross-platform media player. o BSPlayer - Windows player for playing back avi/asf/mpeg video files. o SMPlayer - Multiformat video player that doesn't need codecs. o FantasyDVD Player - Stylish and well equipped DVD player. o Media Player Classic - Extremely light-weight media player for Windows.
